The scoping and negotiations for the final design of the steel beam bridge alternate that was selected by the Town after the completion of the Preliminary Engineering Phase is ongoing between the State DOT, Town and Dewberry. The next Public Information Meeting will be held as soon as the semi-final design plans are developed which is tentatively anticipated to be in June 2014. There will also be a public hearing to obtain the Town of Fairfield Inland Wetlands Permit.

Can we get another update? It’s been 9 months since the Public Information Meeting. Has a bridge design been selected? The last message suggested June 2014. It’s now August.

As mentioned in the February 7, 2014 update on the website, the Town has selected the steel beam bridge alternative subsequent to the Public Information Meeting. The scope of work for the final design of the bridge has been finalized. The consultant fees are being negotiated. Work on final design is anticipated to begin later this fall and regular updates will be provided with the progress in design.

Can we have another update? It’s been 14 months since the original Public Information hearing. It is disappointing to see public officials and bridge engineers talk about the poor condition of the bridge and the necessity to have it rehabilitated to then watch nothing happen for 14 months.

What is going on? Is this website still a relevant source of information?

Subsequent to the completion and comments made at the Public Information Meeting in November 2013, the scope of work for the final design of the selected steel beam bridge alternative was developed by Dewberry. Following the detailed review/approval of the scope by the Town and Connecticut DOT, the negotiations for the project were completed on October 3, 2014. The Town is currently in the process of seeking additional funds internally to cover the final design cost of the project, which is likely to be completed in late February 2015, subsequent to which an agreement will be executed between Town and Dewberry for the final design phase. It is anticipated that the work on final design will commence in late Spring 2015.
